Welcome to College Cottage!

College cottage has been named after the hypothetised original use for the buildings in the 18th Century. Coleg-y-Groes translates to 'College of the Cross', and with it being in the shadows of St Mael and St Sulien's Church, it has been suggested that Coleg-y-Groes was a location for teachings of the church.

How many can stay?

College is a two bedroom cottage sleeping up to five comfortably. The first bedroom features a king size bed with hypnos pocket sprung mattress. The room is decorated tastefully, marrying old character with splashes of modern elegance. The second bedroom contains a double and a single bed. The entire top floor has original oak flooring and fantastic views overlooking the Coleg-y-Groes gardens and the adjacent church grounds.

Kitted out kitchens

The charming kitchen in College is full of character and original features. At the centre of the room you will find an oak dining table with matching chairs to seat five, accompanied by a Welsh dresser. Contained within the kitchen is a standalone Everhot cooker and oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and utensils, as well as microwave and kettle.

Child friendly stay at College

Coleg-y-Groes is a fantastic child friendly place to visit. We have a separate games room where kids will find a range of activities and games. Coleg-y-Groes nestles in the hillsides of Pen y pigyn woodlands where energetic little ones can run around and explore. For guests with young children, we can provide a travel cot and highchair upon request.

Recent renovations for a comfortable stay

Coleg-y-Groes has recently undergone extensive renovations. As well as cosmetic upgrades and improvements to provide a fresh and cozy feel to College, the cottage has also had brand new plumbing, heating and upgraded electrics to ensure a comfortable stay and bring these up to modern regulations and standards.

Relax and be lazy in the lounge

A classic three seat leather Chesterfield sofa and two armchairs match the original oak beams perfectly. The focal point of the room is the fabulous original 18th century fire place with slate mantel. Keep cosy and warm, especially in cooler months, with the wood burner, a truly unrivaled way to warm a room on a quiet evening.

Have a soak after a long walk

A standout feature of College is its cast iron double ended rolltop bath, perfect for having a long relaxing soak after a tiring day out. If convenience is more your thing, the bathroom also has a separate enclosed shower, as well as traditional styled toilet and basin. As with the rest of the upstairs in College, the bathroom features original oak beams as well reclaimed church oak paneling.

Spend time in the garden

The gardens at Coleg-y-Groes have been carefully landscaped to maintain a pleasant atmosphere year round. Enjoy bluebells and daffodils in the spring, a full garden bloom over the warmer months, or evergreens after the snow has fallen in winter. The gardens features many mature trees and bushes. Especially during the summer months, the garden is a great place to relax, read a book or eat dinner. The shared garden with Eyton also contains a personal seating area and BBQ.

No smoking in the cottage

Both our cottages implement a no-smoking policy inside the building to preserve the decor and furnishings. We do offer an alternative designated smoking area on-site.
